The usual term of the proceedings our festival „The International Novohrad Folklore Festival“ / Medzinárodný novohradský folklórny festival (MNFF) is the end of July in two countries - Slovakia and Hungary.
The aim of the International Novohrad Folklore Festival is to revive folk traditions of regional culture as well as to mediate an authentic experience of various forms of folklore from abroad.
The history of the festival started in 1995 when the County Tourist and Cultural Centre in Šalgotarján / Hungary/ decided to unite several smaller folklore events into unique one. In the year 2000, the moving festival crossed the frontier between Hungary and the Slovak Republic and territorially gained dimension of cultural and historical Novohrad. The Novohrad Cultural Centre in Lucenec (Novohradské osvetové stredisko) became the main organizer on the Slovak side.
The festival makes possible to meet people, links them with common experiences and develops good mutual relationships.
