PORTUGAL

Founded in 1953, the Grupo Folclórico de Barcelinhos originated from the Orfeão de Barcelinhos. With a rich tradition of preserving and presenting local folklore, the group exhibits the Barcelos costumes called Ir à Feira or Domingueiro (Going to the Fair and Sunday Clothes), Trajes de Trabalho (Working Clothes) and Trajes de Luxo (Luxury Clothes), which were used until 1900. Grupo Folclórico de Barcelinhos is one of the founding partners of the Portuguese Folklore Federation and is also part of CIOFF Portugal, IOV and INATEL.
Annually, the Group organizes the prestigious International Folklore Festival RIO, an event that attracts thousands of visitors to Barcelos, standing out as the largest folklore festival in the Baixo Cávado region.
Recognition for their tireless work culminated in 1995 with the granting of Public Utility Association status. Grupo Folclórico de Barcelinhos has a history of significant participation in national and international festivals, representing Portugal throughout Europe and America. The celebrations for the 70th Anniversary of the Group in 2023 included a concert by the Portuguese Navy Band. In 2024, the Group represented Portugal in a memorable performance broadcast live on ABC's Good Morning America, one of the world's most-watched morning shows. The broadcast took place at the Pena Palace in Sintra, aiming to promote tourism and Portuguese culture in the USA and around the world.
