Lykion ton Ellinidon Salaminas

Lykιon ton Ellinidon of Salamina was founded in 1982 and at the same time a core of the dance group is created with main axes: a)The preservation of Greek traditions and b) The promotion of our cultural wealth.
The adherence to the authenticity of Traditional Dances - Clothing and Music becomes an occasion for on site research that forms the basis for enrichment of the dance repertoire and the wardrobe that counts today 520 women's costumes and 180 men's costumes. (The 40 is authentic museum pieces).

The dance team is slowly becoming known in Greece and abroad participating in important events such as, at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in 1989, in Beijing in 2008 in the performance ATHENA & OLYMPIA SALUTES BEIJING, 2500 YEARS OF GREEK MUSIC TRADITION in the context of the Cultural Olympiad, as well as, in Dublin – Naples – Brussels – Tokyo - Romania. In addition to that, the dance team participates in International Traditional Dance Festivals in Italy - France - Canada - Portugal - Germany - Hungary– Cyprus - Bulgaria.
The person in charge of the dance team and all dance classes since 1983, is Mr. Glavkos Charmandas. Another cycle of activities is Thematical Dance Performances, which have been performed in theatrical scenes inside and outside Salamis since 1997.
In 2009, the Lykion ton Ellinidon Salaminas, organizes in Salamina, the 1st International Festival of Traditional Dances, with the participation of three bands from Italy - Portugal - Hungary. This success continued with four more festivals in the years 2011, 2013, 2017 and 2019 with folkloric groups from Serbia, Poland, Slovakia, Cyprus, India making our island known in different parts of the world.
LES completing 42 years of action and recognition, is an integral part of the cultural events of the island of Salamina.
