FOLKLORNI ANSAMBL POŽEGA ( Folk Dance Ensemble Požega)
The first mention of folklore amateur activity is related to the founding of the KUD Nikola Demonja in Slavonska Požega in 1963. With the cessation of work after several years, there is an initiative to restart a representative ensemble in the City of Požega. In 2005, a group of enthusiasts for the preservation of cultural traditions gathered again, and thus began a new chapter under the new name of the City in which it is located.
Exclusively guided above all by love for traditional or original folklore, and adapting to the new times, we also cherish old town songs and choreographed folklore. The company works in four sections: adult folklore section, tamburitza section, singing and children's folklore section.
We are participants in all the most prominent festivals of original folklore in Croatia, of which the Đakovački vezovi and the Vinkovačke jeseni stand out in the first place. We performed at the International Folk Festival in Zagreb and at the Folk Festival of Historical Dances. We participated in folklore festivales throughout the homeland, but also outside it, at international folklore festivals abroad. We are the first cultural and artistic company from the Republic of Croatia to perform at Mostovi Balkana in Prijepolje. In 2008, the ensemble received an award from the City of Požega for its dedicated work as a recognition for the preservation of cultural heritage.
The ensemble participated in many projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the Požega-Slavonia County and the City of Požega.
The folklore ensemble of Požega is also a co-organizer of the famous Golden Strings of Slavonia Festival ( Zlatne žice Slavonije), where it regularly participates in both the organization and the program every year.
We are members of the prestigious world organization CIOFF, which is under the auspices of UNESCO, and we pay special attention to working with children and young people.
For several years, we have been selected as the best group in the county both in the category of original folklore and in choreographed performance.
The ensemble is actively involved in the promotion and protection of the intangible cultural assets of Croatia and Slavonia, protected by UNESCO.
