The work of the Living Sculptures Foundation is inspired by the work of its teacher, DELIA ZAPATA OLIVELLA; a sculptor, dancer, choreographer, folklorist, and teacher, a pioneer in the endeavor to rescue, affirm, and disseminate Colombian dances while preserving their traditional authenticity.
We are the work of Delia Zapata Olivella, as she understood her work as a teacher: I sculpt when I dance, I make living sculptures, I shape them spiritually and physically.
Today, her legacy lives on through the LIVING SCULPTURES FOUNDATION, a group made up of alumni of her school who, motivated to maintain and perpetuate her work, continue to study the experiences and popular traditions of the inhabitants of the different regions of Colombia. They have assumed the commitment to carry the Maestro's name high, preserving its essence.
LIVING SCULPTURES has taken as a basis all its teachings and the projection of its research, and has the mission of contributing in a committed way to the conservation, recovery, preservation and fair valuation of intangible cultural heritage, represented in Colombian diversity and multiculturalism.
