The Wielkopolanie Folklore Ensemble was founded in January 1962 and operates within the Provincial Public Library and the Center for Cultural Animation in Poznań. Since 2000, it has also collaborated with Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The ensemble's mission is to cultivate and promote the folk traditions of Greater Poland, including dances and songs from various subregions, such as Szamotuły, Biskupizna, Dąbrówka Wielkopolska, and the culture of the Bambrzy, the historic rural inhabitants of Poznań. Over the years, the repertoire has expanded to include folk dances and songs from many regions of Poland and the country’s five national dances.

As an ambassador of Polish folk culture, Wielkopolanie has performed on five continents in 66 countries. The ensemble has undertaken 128 artistic tours, covering the equivalent of six trips worldwide. Its concerts have reached millions of spectators, with numerous TV and radio broadcasts and video and DVD recordings.

For its artistic achievements, Wielkopolanie has been honored with the prestigious Oskar Kolberg Award For Merits in Folk Culture and the Bronze Medal Meritorious for Polish Culture – Gloria Artis.

The group's repertoire consists of a rich selection of folk dances, songs, and customs, representing the diverse traditions of Greater Poland and other regions of the country. In addition to performing at festivals and concerts, Wielkopolanie actively engages in cultural education, sharing Polish folk traditions with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Thanks to their authenticity and dedication, they have earned the reputation of being a Patron of Folk Culture in Poland, strengthening the national heritage at home and abroad.
