MONTENEGRO

CIOFF® Montenegro is a non-profit association that brings together organizers of folklore festivals, folklore groups, and individual practitioners. Since 2006, we have operated as an independent national section and a full member of CIOFF, consistently upholding the standards of the international network dedicated to safeguarding, presenting, and transmitting traditional culture.

Our primary aim is to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of Montenegro, with lasting respect for the country’s multinational and multicultural character. Our mission is to expand public understanding of cultural heritage and to promote Montenegro’s intangible cultural heritage through research, documentation, and contemporary interpretation, as well as through the development of professional programs that foster intercultural dialogue and public participation.

Within the national section, there is currently one CIOFF festival and 13 folklore groups that cultivate dance, music, and vocal expressions from all regions of the country. Through festivals, workshops, and professional training, we advance performance practices, strengthen member capacities, and contribute to the visibility of Montenegro’s intangible heritage on both the national and international stage.
