The National Section CIOFF® Cyprus, was officially founded in 1997, is an active member of the CIOFF® INTERNATIONAL, representing the internationally recognized Republic of Cyprus, a UNESCO member state since 1961. Since its establishment, the National Section CIOFF® Cyprus has actively participated in international festivals, cultural events, and exchange programs, significantly strengthening Cyprus’ presence in the global cultural scene.

Through its work, initiatives, and the active participation of its cultural associations and members, the National Section CIOFF® Cyprus highlights and promotes the intangible and cultural heritage of the country, contributing to the enhancement of its international visibility and intercultural collaboration.


Cyprus’ intangible and cultural heritage includes important elements such as Lefkaritika embroidery, Tsiattista poetic duels, the Mediterranean Diet, Dry-stone walling, and Byzantine Chanting. These elements form the foundation of the country’s cultural identity and are showcased internationally through the activities and collaborations of the National Section CIOFF® Cyprus. The National Section CIOFF® Cyprus is led by Mr. Michalis Tziortas, President of the National Section, who guides its work with vision, strategic direction, and continuous support for all cultural initiatives. The organization serves as a stable and recognized pillar of cultural collaboration, contributing significantly to the preservation of tradition and the strengthening of the international presence of the Republic of Cyprus.

Every year, in every region of the Republic of Cyprus, Folklore Festivals are organized that highlight the country’s intangible and cultural heritage, connecting the past with the present and revealing the identity, creativity, and spirit of the Cypriot people.
