ARGENTINA

The Argentine section of CIOFF® was created in 1988 on the initiative of Prof. Alcides Hugo Ifrán, together with a group of teachers, directors and artists from different parts of the country.
Since its beginnings, it has held a world assembly, the first outside the European continent (1992), International Festivals with regional sub-venues in different parts of the country; the first Universal Costume Museum was created with a traveling format with more than 40 exhibitions in various provinces and localities; the 1st Youth Commission was formed (1992), a pioneer of the movement at a global level; the “Guillermo Iriarte” Memory Bank was created, a true testimony of the preservation of intangible heritage with outstanding relevance in the country.
Currently, activities are carried out continuously such as Cultural Forums, annual meetings of group directors, cultural projects for the preservation and dissemination of the PCI, Congresses and Assemblies of the Section, activities involving young people and older adults encouraging intergenerational dialogue; The artistic and cultural activity is continuously visualized through websites and networks belonging to the section, linking the population with the work of the movement at a national and international level.
Currently, the section consists of associates and groups belonging to seven provinces and localities in various regions of the country, giving testimony to the federal and participatory scope of the movement.
The artistic groups that represent the section on tours of various festivals in the 5 continents give testimony to authenticity and respect for the Argentine folkloric expressive heritage, exhibiting dances, music and crafts with great technical and professional value with true exponents of quality in each discipline that is presented.
In each of the activities and proposals born from the heart of the section, the sense of belonging to the NGO is expressed and visualized, demonstrating its open, democratic and participatory essence, which from its beginnings made it, and continues to demonstrate, an example of a CIOFF® section worldwide.
