When the summer months arrive, the world does not just awaken it begins to dance, sing, and pulse with the rhythm of countless generations. The holiday season, spanning from June to September, marks the absolute pinnacle of CIOFF® International’s activities. It is a time when cold statistics transform into living emotions, and the global map becomes one magnificent, interconnected stage.
Let’s look at the numbers driving our passion. In just four months, a staggering 236 festivals take place across all CIOFF® sectors! That represents 236 destinations on Earth where heritage seamlessly blends with the contemporary world.
Our footprint is truly global, beautifully illustrated by our regional distribution:
Southern European Sector: 141 festivals - the sun-drenched, expressive heart of summer celebrations.
Central and Northern European Sector: 65 festivals - a rich tapestry of diversity and deep respect for ancestral roots.
Latin American Sector: 12 festivals - bursting with unparalleled energy and vibrant colors.
Asian and Pacific Sector: 8 festivals - mystical, colorful, and fascinating encounters with ancient traditions.
North American Sector: 7 festivals - bridging multiculturalism with local heritage.
Who beats the festival drums the loudest? The leaders in orchestrating these extraordinary gatherings are our National Sections, who pour their hearts into fostering international exchange. At the very peak of this cultural relay, we find Italy and France, each hosting an impressive 22 festivals. Right behind them is vibrant Spain with 21 events, followed by picturesque Portugal hosting 15. Proud of its deep-rooted traditions, Poland organizes 14 festivals, while the list of the most active hosts is rounded out by Bulgaria and Serbia, each bringing 13 remarkable gatherings to life.
Yet, these impressive numbers are merely the frame. The true masterpiece is painted the moment the artists step onto the stage. CIOFF® is not about dry data above all, it is about friendship, tradition, and peace.
