Plaza de la Constitución 10-2º Jumilla- Murcia (Spain)
National Folklore Festival of the City of Jumilla
As part of the Jumilla Fair, and when the nights in Jumilla in mid-August smell of grape juice and celebration, the National Folklore Festival ‘Ciudad de Jumilla’ opens its doors to the range of music, dance, traditions and rich colours that the participating groups, coming from all over the country, display over three intense days.
The The central Plaza de la Glorieta will be the main venue, where the different groups will showcase their deepest roots, from the traditional songs and dances of each region to other expressions that have been passed down from parents to children, representing ancestral, festive, warrior or religious dances, preserved over centuries and difficult to witness except in their places of origin.
The ‘Ciudad de Jumilla’ National Folklore Festival, which has been held continuously since 1982 and is organised by the Jumilla Choir and Dance Group, has seen the participation of more than a hundred groups from all the autonomous communities, representing 40 different provinces. It is now considered one of the prestige held in Spain, becoming a true channel for the dissemination of popular dances, customs and traditions. Since December 2002, it has been an affiliated member of the International Council of Organisations for Folklore Festivals (CIOFF).
