The Atocpan Women's Cultural Group is the result of various activities carried out over 23 years; actions that initially were individual but required collective, systematic, and organized support to transcend the immediate. Thus, the dance festivals organized to exchange experiences with other folklore groups became what is now called: “SAN PEDRO ATOCPAN INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL.” This festival expresses the commitment of the Women of Atocpan to building a society tolerant of religious, linguistic, cultural, and political differences; inclusive of all ethnic, gender, age, and sexual minorities; democratic and a promoter of the peaceful coexistence of people and communities. It is through this organization that bonds are created with the participating folklore dance groups, with the objective of preserving the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
