Lykeion ton Ellinidon of Salamina (LES) established in 2009 a new institution: the International Folk Dance Festival of Salamina.Since 1992, the dance groups of LES have participated in numerous international folklore festivals across Europe, Asia, and America, gaining significant experience that enabled the successful organization of the first festival on the island in July 2009. The vision from the beginning was to host it every two years.Today, the Festival is a recognized cultural institution of our island, supported entirely by its many volunteers—primarily the dancers and the Administration of the Lykeion. Its aim is to promote cultural exchange through traditional dance, music, customs, and traditions, fostering bonds of friendship and cooperation among nations. To date, five festivals have been held, each hosting four to five countries and welcoming 80 to 140 participants. The opening ceremony includes a parade and performances across central and remote areas of the island, enabling both residents and visitors to enjoy the events. The closing ceremony takes place at the Euripideio Theater of Salamina, which accommodates up to 2,000 spectators.
