FESTIMAIORCA - FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE FOLCLORE DE MAIORCA

The first edition of our festival was in 1975, being at the time exclusively with Portuguese national groups.
In 1982, a group from Galiza – Spain, opened the door to the international festival that we know today.
In 1991, the International Festival of Folklore of Maiorca, got a new name: FESTIMAIORCA, and since 2002 has come to occupy a prominent place on the international folklore festival’s calendar that take place in Portugal, under the symbol of C.I.O.F.F. – International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festival and Folk Arts.
CIOFF® is a Non-Governmental Organization informal consultative relation with UNESCO.
Throughout the various editions had passed the stage of the “Palace Square” (Terreiro do Paço) groups from various countries from around the world: Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Sweden, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Mexico, Argentina, Israel, Togo, Sierra Leone, Timor, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and the various regions of the country, including the Azores and Madeira.
The festival’s program has had some changes over the years. Initially the festival was confined to a single day. In 1991, now has two days of initiatives, with the introduction of the Dance of Friendship (Baile da Amizade). In 2002 the festival embraces the costume that you know today: six days of initiatives, from the welcome party of Dance of Friendship on Friday night, passing to Portuguese traditional games, the International Mass at the Mother Church of Maiorca on Sunday, with the participation of international groups.
